Common Problem We See

There are a few problems we notice multiple times a week. We want to make sure you get the most out of your septic system as possible, so look at the list below and how to avoid damaging your septic tank.

Clogged Filters:

For septic systems with filters (which includes every system since 2000), a clogged filter will lead to back up drainage problems. This is avoided by routine pumping and disposing of the proper items.

Grease:

When you pour grease down the drain, it will backup your septic tank. When it solidifies, grease becomes essentially like cement.

Disposable wipes:

Don’t be deceived, these wipes may be flushable but that doesn’t mean they are septic friendly. These are the prime reasons filters are clogged.

Pumping & Repairs FAQ

  • Q: How often should I have my septic tank pumped?

A: On average every 3 -5 years. This helps improve the lifetime of the tank and system.

  • Q: What should the average lifespan of my septic tank/system be?

A: Traditionally it’s about 20-25 years, but it can be prolonged with proper maintenance.

  • Q: What is not acceptable to flush down my septic?

A: We see a lot of disposable wipes. While these may be ‘flushable’ they are not septic friendly because they are not biodegradable. Additionally, any grease essentially acts like cement and makes it extremely difficult to clean quickly.
